Island Colonials In-House League

Ages 4-12 • October 4th - March 22nd

The Island Colonials House League is designed to teach the fundamental skills of ice hockey and basic concepts of team play. It serves as an alternative or developmental stepping stone to the higher-level Arctic Foxes. Programs are offered at the Mini Mite (ages 4-6), Major Mite (7-8), and Squirt/Pee Wee (9-12) levels. Full ice hockey equipment is required.

Players must have skated in the Learn to Play Hockey program and passed Hockey II or the equivalent at another rink, or participated in a recreational or competitive house league program. All players must be registered with USA Hockey.

Fees include 35 75-minute slots over 21 weekends, an end of the year party, holiday party and a parents and kids game. Each player receives a high quality jersey with name and number, matching socks, an individual participant trophy and five stick time passes.

Mini Mite Program

The Mini Mite program (ages 4-6) is for youngsters born in 2002, 2003 and 2004. A maximum of four teams of 11 players each have a joint practice run as a clinic by the coaches. During practices, the individual skills of skating, passing, stick handling and shooting are emphasized. Games are played half-ice. The parity system is used to ensure equal ice time and that players of similar age and ability are on the ice.

Major Mite and Squirt/Pee Wee Programs

The Major Mite program (ages 7-8) is for youngsters born in 2000 and 2001; Squirt/Pee Wee (ages 9-12) in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. We expect to field six Major Mite and four Squirt/Pee Wee teams. Teams consist of 15 players and have approximately 14 games and 21 on-ice practices.

Schedule

Play begins the weekend of October 4-5 weekend and runs through March 22. Games and practices do not take place during the Thanksgiving, Christmas or Martin Luther King Day weekends. All practices and games are at the RMU Island Sports Center. The Squirts/Pee Wees may have 4 or 5 Saturday evening practices at 8:30 or 9:30 pm. Approximately two-thirds of home ice slots are played on the Open Air Stadium Rink. First Weekend on the Ice

First Weekend On the Ice

Players will be sent an e-mail on September 29 as to their practice schedule for the first weekend, Oct. 4-5. Potentional practice starting times are Saturday, between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and on Sunday, 8:45 a.m. - 1:45 p.m.

Your schedule for week 2 will be given to you on Sunday, October 5.

Skating Up

All players should register for their proper age level. With this in mind, it is our policy that youngsters should skate at a level which best challenges them. After the first couple of ice sessions we may ask players to skate up a level if:

  1. Their ability merits such a move.
  2. We have room at the next level for them to play.

Children who skated up last season are allowed to continue to do so this year.

Power Skating with Marianne Watkins

As a member of the Island Colonials you are eligible for a discount on Steel Power-Power Skating with Marianne Watkins, our world renowned teacher. Four 6 week sessions are offered at $132 per session, but you may skate in any of the sessions at the discounted fee of $119.
